The royal fort served as the Maratha capital for 26 years under Shivaji Maharaj. Rajgad meaning "King of Forts" was the center of Maratha administration and witnessed many important historical events. The fort features massive fortifications, royal palace ruins, and three main machis (plateaus). Rajaram Maharaj, son of Shivaji, was born here. The Padmavati Temple is a significant spiritual site on the fort. Popular for night treks, the fort offers spectacular sunrise and sunset views. The Balekilla is the highest point offering 360-degree views.

How to Reach

Located 60 km from Pune. Base villages are Gunjavane (easier route) and Pali (difficult route). Trek duration: 3-4 hours. State transport buses available to base villages. Best to start early morning or for night trek.
