The first fort captured by 16-year-old Shivaji Maharaj in 1646, marking the beginning of the Maratha Empire. Torna, also known as Prachandagad, is the highest fort in Pune district standing at 4,603 feet. The fort features the Menghai Devi Temple and the Budhla Machi citadel. The massive fortifications and strategic location showcase advanced military planning. The Zunjar Machi offers spectacular views. The trek is challenging but rewarding with breathtaking panoramic views of surrounding forts including Rajgad and Raigad.

How to Reach

Located 50 km from Pune. Base village Velhe accessible from Pune via Sinhagad Road. Trek duration: 3-4 hours, steep and challenging. Early morning start recommended. MSRTC buses to Velhe available from Swargate.
